Lou & Hy's

Lou & Hy’s was an Akron institution for 33 years. Memories of its cheesecake, stacked corned beef sandwiches and other eats linger on.

The deli on West Market Street in Akron’s Wallhaven neighborhood closed in 1998 and was demolished to make way for a CVS pharmacy, which still stands at the site across from Ken Stewart’s Grille.

Lou & Hy’s started to take shape in 1964 when Lou Kay, who had a bakery in University Heights and wanted to own a restaurant, learned that an Akron eatery named Jack’s was for sale.

Kay asked his brother-in-law, Herman 'Hy' Potrock, if he would be interested in joining him in the venture. It became Lou & Hy’s in April 1965.

Potrock retired from Lou & Hy’s in 1987, and Kay died in 1990.

The restaurant closed in 1998, after Kay’s son, Alan, sold the property to developers. The building was torn down.

Sizing

Our artwork is generally printed at 10" - 12" wide across sizes S-2XL. Height of the design is in proportion to its width.

This means that a design on a size Small may appear slightly larger, in proportion to the width of the shirt, than the same design on a X-Large or XX-Large. This is done to minimize waste and environmental impact.

Care Instructions

Machine wash warm, inside out, with like colors and remove immediately.

Use non-chlorine bleach only when needed.

Ideally, hang to dry. If necessary, tumble dry with very low to medium heat.

Cool iron, if needed, but *Please do not iron the graphic*

Do not dry clean.

For 100% cotton t-shirts, there *will* be some shrinkage after several washes in warm/hot water and tumble drying.

For blended cotton / poly t-shirts, there *can* be some shrinkage after several washes in warm/hot water and tumble drying.
